maybe not a perfect 1:1 for the G35:350Z, but damn near close. I do not think it is a downgrade, but that is obviously subject to opinion by the masses. The Z33, straight from the factory, is badass, and has a great following for the aftermarket world like the Z32 does. IMHO, it's nice to start fresh, and build a new project car once you are done with project 'a'. As long as you have a DD in the house, and funds in the account - project away! 400+RWHP Z33's exist (in street trim, 91 octane) which are plenty fast for all the Z33 bashers who say the car is so much slower than a modded Z32.
